Great Alpine Road

Keep those cattle (and vehicles) secure!

In many ways the hub of the Mount Hotham Alpine Resort, this saddle on the Great Divide has seen many evolutions and changes.  Beginning as an early Country Roads Board depot, it was soon transformed into the Hotham Heights Chalet for summer and then winter accommodation.  The locality also saw the development of the early ski industry and the take-off point for the first ski runs.  Cattle grazing also took place on these slopes during these early days.

Hundreds of photographs from the early pioneering times to the present day have been taken by travellers stopping at this remarkable location.
