Some cattlemen had previously been miners.

Many of the cattle grazing pursuits in the valleys and the high country were established by men who had obtained some level of wealth from their activities as gold miners.  Either as independent miners or through wages earnt in the larger company mines.

The grazing of cattle would ultimately become their long-term and regular source of income.

Historic sites like Damm Hut are important places that clearly demonstrate the connection of the mining activity which assisted individuals in establishing themselves as cattle graziers.

The site of the hut is now overgrown and obscured by bushfire regrowth.
