The Great Alpine Road extends 339km between Wangaratta in Victoria’s North East to Metung on the Gippsland Lakes. 

The highest section of the road over Mount Hotham takes in Australia’s grandest Alpine views and some of Victoria’s most and largely forgotten history.  Were at one point another in the history of the area, every hill, gully, and bend one had a place name or story to tell. 

From gold mining to cattle grazing and pioneering tourism, the history of the Hotham section of the Great Alpine Road is only just being discovered.
