Crooked River Run
Gold was the cry in 1860, when the precious metal was discovered in this remote corner of the colony by explorer William Howitt.  Townships and mining camps sprang up overnight amidst the wilderness as thousands searched the rugged terrain in search of their fortune.  Nearly as quickly as they arrived they departed, most financially poorer for the experience.  Get a glimpse into a way of life now long gone, through the crumbling ruins of goldfields towns perched on hillsides and river bends.  Take timeout to visit the machinery remains of the stamp batteries that released gold from its host quartz.  Marvel at the feat of getting the machinery into the once remote New Good Hope mine site, or take the easier stroll to the Exhibition battery at Dargo.
